Obama Speech

In Obamas speech, I thought that he made several good points. He said that we all have the same challenges in life, so together, as one we should work together to these solve them.He feels that we cant solve these problems without working together.I also enjoyed how he gave us insight into his own life and told us about his family.I thought that he handled the situation with the pastor very well. It is very true that we all here things that we disagree with.So just because his pastor may have said some things that looked bad, it doesnt mean that he necessarily agrees with them and I thought that was a great point to make.I liked how he went ot talk about positive things about the pastor. it is very true that we always look for the bad and never see the good. So I thought that was a good point to make.

I also appreciated the vulnerability Obama portrayed by sharing with his audience about his family life, his own personal story. This was, I believe, a very skillful way of connecting with and gaining the trust of his audience. The passage in his speech about having "brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. of all races and hues scattered across three continents" expertly served to unite his audience in listening to his message. I was touched by his statement that he "will never forget that in no other country in the world is [his] story even possible." It was a powerful reminder about all that is possible in the life of an American citizen.

Obama's willingness to build up the man who so many now despise was equally impressive. I believe it spoke volumes about his own character and also built him up in the eyes of the American people. What do you think about the timing of his speech, though? Do you think the delay between Rev. Wright's comments and Obama's "apologetic" speech was a result of Obama deciding whether or not he would apologize? Or just the time it took for him to formulate an adequate response?

Again you brought up the point of Obama bringing his own family's stories into the speech. I really liked that and thought it would really reach out to American families. I agree that he handled the situation well and I don't really think he could have done much else. I think he his such a powerful speeker and he did an impressive job talking about diversity in America and talking about his pastor.
